Police Department

The Gettysburg Borough Police Department is a full service police department which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To report a crime (will be anonymous) call 334-8101. During the American Civil War, July 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 1863 Gettysburg was the scene of the largest battle ever fought on the north American continent. The Borough receives approximately 2 to 2 1/2 million visitors per year to visit the town and the National Park battlefield.

The Borough is 1.66 square miles with a population of approximately 7,500 residences. The Borough also has a college community of approximately 3,100 students and staff, as well as the Gettysburg Lutheran Theological Seminary with approximately 275 students and staff.

The police department participates in the Adams County Drug Task Force and Adams County DUI check point program.

The police department has a volunteer Chaplain's program coordinated by Chaplain Chuck Teague a retired Lieutenant Colonel of the United States Air Force.
