Highway Department
The Highway Department has a (5)
five man road crew consisting of a working foreman and (4)
four truck drivers/equipment
operators/laborers. The department is responsible for all things related to Borough streets. These activities include building and maintaining all Borough streets and
bridges, snow plowing and removal, storm water management, leaf collection, brush pick-up, traffic signal maintenance, street light maintenance, and building maintenance.
The Highway Department also participates in capital projects taken on by Gettysburg Borough Council either by doing the project or helping with the project. Some of our projects
are Bricking of the Square Quadrants, The Train Station Revitalization, Railroad Street Revitalization, and Baltimore Street Beautification Project.
Gettysburg Highway Department is a partner with Penn D.O.T. in the Agility Program. This program saves taxpayers money by teaming with Penn D.O.T. crews to do projects with each
other and sharing specialized equipment. Agility work is done without any exchange of money. All that is exchanged is time and material. This is a vital program for out taxpayers
to save money.
